Uniqueness is what makes it unique to a successful application, and is the first thing to keep in mind when picking the pen to write. Create your essay for a scholarship individual to make it personal, dive into your desire and passion to research your topic, and come up with a solution that can only be related to you. It’s this uniqueness that is distinctive, and that’s exactly what catches the judge’s attention and determines an individual as a winner.

Many applications for scholarships require an essay, you have to be able to persuade the scholarship program board that you’re the right person to receive the money available or the right person to be awarded the scholarship.

The Scholarship essay is a window into your world. Similar to your personal statement for college applications, this essay should give the readers a sense of you as a dimensional person—beyond what your high school GPA and test scores alone can reflect.

TIPS TO WRITE AN WINNING SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

  • Read thoroughly about the essay questions you are being asked: Reading helps you to understand the perspective of the scholarship committee judges, for example, what they expect from you, how you are to deliver, and so on. By reading, you submerge yourself into the thought of the reader and that helps you to decide, what writing style to use and how to capture the judge’s mind.
  • Start your essay with a strong point: It is advisable to begin your essay with an attention-grabbing sentence because your first sentence will determine if the judges will continue reading the essay. You have to write in a way that will make them want to discover more about what is written in the letter. Also, your essay should be as real as possible. It should be relatable to a student’s life.
  • Uniqueness In Writing Style: If you have gone through many application entries that have ever been granted a scholarship, it will be difficult to identify the similarities between them because each essay comes with a distinctive style by its author.

This uniqueness is the key, this is what makes your essay stand out from the rest and that’s precisely what catches a judge’s eye and defines a winner. Make your scholarship application essay exclusive to you, personalize it, delve deep into your passion and drive to study your subject, and create a response that could only ever relate to you.

WINNING SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY EXAMPLES

  • Fill the essay with keywords used in the scholarship essay: As has been stated above, keywords your leadership experience, volunteering, academic excellence, sports activities, financial support, and many more.
  • Use Real-Life Examples (“Show, don’t tell”): Instead of telling your reader about your experiences, show them. Don’t be afraid to provide real-world examples of your experiences and/or how you’ve changed as a person. Nearly every applicant will have a somewhat similar response to the essay prompt and your personal examples are your chance to transform your essay from generic to unique.
  • Stay Away From Unnecessary Points & Boring Conclusions: Most people use the conclusion to simply paraphrase their entire essay…but don’t be afraid to think outside of the box! Do something surprising and innovative. Make your essay interesting and attention-grabbing from the first letter until the last period. One great way to bring your conclusion to the next level is to leave your readers with an interesting question for them to think about.
  • Proofread and Ask for Help: This is the editing phase. You can not be too sure of what you have written only by proofreading and it is advisable to also ask a family member or friend for help can provide you with a different perspective on your writing and the second set of eyes might catch a mistake that you didn’t.
  • Be Persistent: The best way to ensure that you won’t be awarded a scholarship is not to apply. Apply to as many scholarships and grants as you’re eligible for, and if you don’t succeed at first, keep trying!
